Holiday tattoo – what do I do?

Holiday tattoos

What do you do with THAT holiday tattoo. Holiday tattoos are just that – a holiday tattoo, tattoo regret, PicoSure laser tattoo removal , Derry, Northern Ireland tattoo done while in the holiday spirit –  in a moment of joy, freedom, happiness, madness… You will remember why you had it done😊

Some tattoos can be kept, while others…. Well… Sometimes reality kicks in the day after or when you arrive home and you realise that your tattoo, was not such a great idea and you regret what you had done.

We know you are panicking…..

Here is what you should do with your questionnable holiday tattoo..

  1. Stop… Yes we really mean stop. But don’t panic (more) because panic will make the tattoo thing a whole lot worse.
  2. Think…. Is it really that bad that you have to have it removed or could you get a cover up?
  3. Wait….. at least 6 weeks before doing anything more to your skin                     ….Use this time (6 weeks) to think some more and either contact a reputable tattoo artist if you are going for a cover up or a reputable clinic to remove your tattoo. Or maybe, just maybe your tattoo will be growing on you.

Why do you have to wait?

We know about the panic that sets in when you realise your holiday tattoo is not so cool. Reality kicks in big time, especially if it’s a tattoo that you are embarrassed about or the location on your body was not the best place where you could have had a tattoo.

What will your parents say? What will your mates say? Even though your skin looks healed on the top, a natural skin cycle is approximately 6 weeks and your skin is working pretty hard underneath, to restore itself. Have anything done too soon and you could end up with permanent scars.

What we would like you to know, is that we have heard and seen it all before. So there is no need to be embarrassed. We will give you advice on how and when to go ahead with treatment, if it is suitable.

So if you are one of those people wanting to have your tattoo removed, then contact us to arrange your free consultation and we will discuss all your options.

Laser Tattoo Removal and Scarring

Scarring……

Laser tattoo removal and scarring are two things that do not UberSkin PicoSure tattoo removal, acne scar treatment, anti-wrinkle treatment, Derry, Northern Ireland
necessarily have to go together. Will laser tattoo removal scar my skin? A frequent question asked and very relevant at that.

Many of our patients, seeking laser tattoo removal do have visible scars under their tattoo. Equally we have patients who do not have any scars and want to be reassured of our laser tattoo removal process. They are rightly concerned that we may be causing more scarring when we remove their tattoo.

Laser tattoo removal and scarring – does laser tattoo removal cause scarring?

Laser tattoo removal in itself, should not cause scarring, when the correct laser technology is used by qualified practitioners. We are fortunately able to assure you that our PicoSure laser does not cause scarring nor does it make scarring worse.

Equally we see many patients, who have been treated within medical facilities, with earlier generation q-switched lasers, who have no scars due to the clinic’s specialised laser technology and practitioner expertise.

Laser tattoo removal and scarring Why do patients have scars?

We are talking about visible scarring and not slight textural changes to the skin which can be associated with either having the tattoo done or removed. These are the most common causes of the scarring we see in our patients seeking treatment:

  1. Scarring associated with tattoo removal – laser, salabrasion, surgery
  2. Scarring associated with the time tattoo was done – very rare
  3. Scarring due to an injury

How to minimise the chance of scarring

What you can do:

  1. Seek out a registered and reputable laser clinic – laser clinics source their lasers from specialised medical laser companies
  2. Contact the clinic and ask questions about your treatment
  3. Follow the home care instructions your laser practitioner provides to protect your skin

What we do:

  1. We invested in PicoSure – one of the most advanced lasers currently available, which uses a PressureWave to break down your ink
  2. We do a patch test to determine the most appropriate setting for your treatment
  3. Our experienced clinicians are qualified and registered to provide laser tattoo removal
  4. We work in conjunction with other registered laser clinics, should you require a referral

If you have questions about laser tattoo removal or scarring associated with the procedure, give us a call on 07437377244 and we will do our best to help you.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation – an overview

Pigmentation is a concern that affects men and women, and women are affected, more than men.

The interesting aspect of this, is that most people think only women wear make up to camouflage skin irregularities on the face. But men are getting more savvy in using make up as well – more on this is another blog.

Let’s get back to pigments and pigmentation……

Pigments, called melanin give your skin its natural skin colour.

We all naturally have different amounts of melanin or pigment in our skin, which give us 6 different skin types, known as Fitzpatrick skin types I-VI.

Pigmentation….

can be too much or too little. What’s the difference?

Hypopigmentation

Hypopigmentation occurs when you have areas, on your skin, that is less pigmented than your overall natural skin tone, like Vitiligo.

Today I am going to concentrate on….

Hyperpigmentation – generally people referred to it, as ‘pigmentation’.

What is it?

Hyperpigmentation occurs when you have an overproduction of melanin or pigment in your melanocytes, in certain areas of your skin.

What is the cause?

There are several factors that can contribute to an increased production of melanin such as:

  • Sun exposure
  • Hormonal changes
  • Medication
  • Iron overload
  • Medical conditions
  • And stress and environmental factors are also being mentioned as a contributing factor.

What does uneven pigmentation look like?

Uneven pigmentation can appear on any part of your body. But, people see your face. FIRST. That is how people recognise you.

Your pigmentation can appear as uneven patches on your upper lip, cheeks or forehead. You could have a combination of of these areas on your face. It’s that first impression that you would like to be comfortable with and that’s where we would like to help.

How can you treat pigmentation?

The best approach to treating pigmentation, is to have a combination of treatments, such as topical applications, prescription medication, chemical peels, light or laser therapy. These treatments, co-ordinated over time, between you and your clinician, can provide a long term improvement and solution to your pigmentation problem.

Registered Laser Tattoo Removal Service

Registered laser tattoo removal service in Northern Ireland

Are you having your tattoo removed by a registered laser tattoo removal service? How do you know and why is it important?

Every laser tattoo removal service in Northern Ireland, has to be registered with RQIA. RQIA is the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority. They inspect, register and regulate all clinics, studios and hospitals that provide a laser tattoo removal service.

Why is it important to know if you are treated within a registered laser tattoo removal service?

  • The person treating you is trained to the appropriate level
  • The equipment is safe and working properly
  • The treatment protocols are set up by a medical doctor
  • The premises is inspected and deemed as a safe environment for you to be in

How do you know whether you are treated by a registered laser tattoo removal service?

Look for this sign –

Registered laser tattoo removal service

Who can display this sign? Only a premises that passed a rigorous inspection for quality and safety and has a registration number with RQIA is allowed to display this sign of quality assurance.

Now, some business do not display this sign, but they will clearly state that they are registered with RQIA. Why? Because any tattoo removal service who is willing to be inspected, do so, because they have gone to the trouble of being appropriately trained and invested in equipment that is safe to use.

There are several registered laser tattoo removal services in Northern Ireland. Some are based in clinics, others in hospitals, while some tattoo removal services are very closely associated with tattoo studios and will clearly show that they are registered. Irrespective of where the tattoo removal service is located, if they are registered, then they have done so, because they care about the service they provide to you.

The most important thing to remember is that a tattoo removal laser in the wrong hands, can cause immeasurable and often irreversible damage to your skin. Why run the risk?

For your own safety and peace of mind, make sure you only seek out a registered laser tattoo removal service here in Northern Ireland.

Patch Test – What is it and why do we do it?

Why do I need a patch test?

Patch test for PicosureThis question surfaces a lot.

First – What is a patch test?

A patch test is done, prior to your treatment, by using 2-3 different settings and testing small areas of skin.

The reasons people give, to avoid having a patch test, range from “I’ve had patch a test and PicoSure before” to “you must be trying to see if your treatments work”.

Lets start with the latter….. The PicoSure, like any other laser has a specific range of treatments that it can perform. When patients enquire about the treatments we offer, we advise them whether we can help them or not – before booking any appointments. We only do a  patch test for the treatments we offer.

When you are seen for the first time, we will do a consultation which includes a complete medical history.

Patch test for PicoSure treatment

By doing a full medical history we can determine whether:
– You are suitable for the treatment
– Your treatment has to be delayed
– You actually need to be referred

Now for the former…. You’ve had a patch test and PicoSure before…..

Yes many people don’t understand, but here’s

Why we do your patch test.
1. Best practice
UberSkin is a registered clinic and our treatments are carried out under strict medical protocol, which includes having a patch test prior to your first treatment.
2. Best setting
This simply means, we need to choose the correct settings on the PicoSure which will give you the best results for your treatment. In order to find out what this setting is, we do a patch test.
3. Best result
We then wait to see how these spot tests develop and respond over a period of time. This can be anything from 24 hours to several days depending on your skin type.

Doing a patch test, is a simple way of understanding whether a setting is right or too high or too low. If the setting is too low, then your treatment will not be effective. If it is too high, then you could have an adverse reaction.

Ultimately your safety is paramount. We want you to feel confident having the treatment. So doing a patch test is the simplest way of finding out the best setting to achieve the best results with your chosen treatment.

Acne Scarring – The emotional aspect

Acne scarring leaves emotional scars, as I recently discovered.

For years acne scarring has been a word I’d Acne scarring with PicoSurebeen familiar with, because lo and behold…. I did exactly what my mother told me NOT to do. Don’t pick your face! As a teenager you always know best, don’t you.

But I got a whole new understanding of acne scarring, when I started treating patients as part of my clinical training for the PicoSure laser.

The first question my potential patient asked was: How soon can I put my make up on?

This threw me for a second, since I thought the first question would be – ‘Is the treatment painful?’ Then it hit me: what I was calling acne scarring was NOTHING compared to the people who really had acne scarring, because I hardly wear any make up.

My conversations with these wonderful people were very emotional as I realised that make up was the first thing they thought about when they woke up in the morning. The first thing they thought about when going out. Literally the mask they got into before facing the world.

‘It’s not what I look like, but how I feel’ – really struck a chord.

Women, who I saw had beautiful skin, removed layers and layers of make up before I could treat them. They were still beautiful – I’m a firm believer that nothing on the outside can detract from someone’s beauty on the inside.

The stories associated with acne scarring are varied, but it has one common theme. It takes away a certain amount of confidence and the added confidence is literally ‘put on’ by a brush & palette of powder.

Acne scarring has whole new meaning to me. I have seen some wonderful results from the treatments I have carried out. Some people only need a few appointments, where others definitely need more.

I have to be honest, I have been forced to take on a different perspective – a perspective much deeper than any superficial ‘concerns’ I could have about my own skin.

If you would like to speak to me, send me a text at +44 (0) 74 3737 7244 and I will call you back or drop me an e-mail at hello@uberskin.co.uk and I will see how I can help you.

The Picosure laser is the newest and most effective in removing tattoos

The Picosure laser workstation is revolutionising the tattoo removal industry!

Picosure laser, UberSkin Derry, safe laser treatment for tattoo removal, acne scars, skin revitalisation and anti-wrinkle treatment, Northern Ireland

So you have a tattoo, which you now regret. What now? You are not so sure what to do or where to go. You know about laser tattoo removal, but the thought scares you. Or you had laser tattoo removal and you don’t think it’s working so well.

How do you know who to trust or which laser is the real deal? All lasers are NOT created equal. You might have heard of the Picosure laser, but what is it? All you know is, you are looking for a safe and fast way to remove your tattoo. Look no further than UberSkin. We offer you the Picosure laser.

Laser tattoo removal is by far the most effective way of getting rid of your tattoo, compared to creams, lotions and potions. Why? Because it breaks up your tattoo ink into bite size pieces, so your body can remove it through your lymphatic system.

But what is bite size? It makes sense that the smaller the particle size of your ink, the easier your body will be able to get rid of it.

Thats where the Picosure laser comes in. Older nano second lasers break up your ink into chunks. The Picosure laser blasts your tattoo ink into fine particles like grains of sand.  It’s so much easier for your body’s lymphatic system to remove a small particle of ink compared to pushing a huge chunk of ink through your system.

The Picosure laser workstation can remove your tattoos safely and efficiently without injuring the surrounding tissue.

If you are wondering about this type of treatment or would like to have a chat, contact us and we will be happy to help.
